Symptoms of Gonadotrophin Deficiency (2) Loss of secondary sexual hair occurs in both sexes after several years (Fig. 2.13). In men, the principal symptoms of gonadotrophin deficiency are poor libido and impotence, with infertility resulting from a decrease in sperm production. The testicles become smaller and soft. Beard growth may take many years to regress and may be normal for some time after libido and sexual function have been impaired. In both sexes, there is fine wrinkling of the skin, particularly around the mouth and eyes. If gonadotrophin secretion fails in childhood, while GH remains normal, there will be excessive linear growth due to failure of closure of the epiphyses. Thus, a eunuchoid proportion develops, with span exceeding height.
